free idea - car database website, VED band, security, reviews

I have a bunch of ideas knocking around inside my head for websites, none of which I have time to build. So, I thought I'd dump them here for someone else to build them. The first is a notional VED Band website. All cars are rated according to the level of the vechile excise duty, this is on a UK Government website, the carfuelduty site. The data is free to repurpose and available for regular download. The feature I think is missing is the ability to compare cars across the same type, e.g. all small MPVs. You can only search by model / make or VED band. Not by type, which seems a strange omission.

So take the data, offer by class of car view of the data, perhaps link it to the Thatcham data sets for security and whiplash ratings. Then maybe to various car reviews, add some Google ads and some TradeDoubler and you've got a nice little site. Earlier in the year when I was looking at cars in earnest, prior to buying a Renault Scénic I was quite keen on the idea, but I've lost interested in cars a bit, so don't have the inclination to do this project anymore. Anyone else interested, I've got more details to offer you if you are.
